Grace Year

The instant New York Times bestseller, Kim Liggett's The Grace Year is a speculative YA thriller in the vein of The Hunger Games and The Power, now in trade paperback.

No one speaks of the grace year. It’s forbidden.

In Garner County, girls are banished for their sixteenth year to release their magic into the wild so they can return purified and ready for marriage.

But not all of them will make it home alive.

Tierney James dreams of a better life—but as her own grace year draws near, she quickly realizes that there’s more to fear about the grace year than the brutal elements and the poachers in the woods.

Their greatest threat may very well be each other.

With sharp prose and gritty realism, Liggett's The Grace Year examines the complex and sometimes twisted relationships between girls, the women they eventually become, and the difficult decisions they make in-between.

This book was a compelling exploration of the dark feminine and societal projections onto women & their innate power. A dystopian nightmare of a world
that had elements of Yellowjackets. The writing was captivating & I felt so uncomfortable the whole time, like I was right there with all the girls. I could not put this book down. The ending shocked me completely. This is one of the most beautiful stories I’ve ever read.

The theme is original and I really like the ending, the author at times drags too much certain details and it became predictable , repetitive but overall good read and entertaining.

This book left me with so many emotions. As a story it was scary, fascinating, sad, hopeful, rageful and beautiful, all at once.  As a book carrying a meaning is deeply disturbing yet hopeful. I can't wrap my head around the fact what brainstorming can do to a human. But at the same time, it was so important and heart-warming seeing how trusting your very own heart can be liberating, from that brainstorming and any other shackles.  Such an important read.
