And it was all going to plan ... until it wasn't. Upside down after a devastating series of tragedies leads to her medical license being revoked, Maggie has lost her purpose, but not her nerve or her passion. At her lowest point, she is thrown a lifeline by a former colleague, an elite plastic surgeon whose anonymous clientele demand the best care money can buy, as well as absolute discretion.

Halfway across the globe, sequestered in the lap of luxury and cutting-edge technology, one of the world's most mysterious men requires unconventional medical assistance. Desperate, and one of the few surgeons in the world skilled enough to take this job, Maggie enters his realm of unspeakable opulence and fulfills her end of the agreement. I liked the book and it held my attention throughout. There were definitely some twists and turns I didn’t anticipate. At one point, Maggie’s escapades were somewhat overhyped and unbelievable, but overall a good thriller. The ending was a surprise and there were several unanswered questions my book club teased out during discussion; ie,who was the doctor in the baseball cap? How long prior to end of the book had Porkchop killed Trace? Was it the entire time he was missing? Who was using Trace’s phone to send texts to Nadia? I saw Harlem Coben and Reese Witherspoon ona talk show and they seemed to genuinely have enjoyed collaborating this book.

Kept me on my seat to guess what happened next. Enjoyed Reese Witherspoon as Maggie. Her husband Marc was played by Chris Pine. Won’t spoil it for others, but it definitely seemed to be set up for a sequel.

Reese Witherspoon did really well narrating. I liked how she kept you thinking and trying to put all the pieces together in hopes to have it figured out before the end of the book. Porkchop is my favorite character. His voice was done perfectly. Our bookclub said, "it's like he was your favorite Uncle."

A bit out there, but that’s why most people read books. Who can connect with a crazy story about combat surgeons who create a worldwide nonprofit and get caught up with a Russian oligarch?! But what really drove me nuts was the use of the word military, nobody says they were in the military, they say the Branch they were in….when I was in the Army, when I was in the Navy, and so on. Great twists and Reese does a great job narrating. 4⭐️ Book #33 in 2026
