Give and Take: Why Helping Others Drives Our Success

A groundbreaking look at why our interactions with others hold the key to success, from the New York Times bestselling author of Hidden Potential, Think Again, and Originals

For generations, we have focused on the individual drivers of success: passion, hard work, talent, and luck. But in today’s dramatically reconfigured world, success is increasingly dependent on how we interact with others. In Give and Take, Adam Grant, an award-winning researcher and Wharton’s highest-rated professor, examines the surprising forces that shape why some people rise to the top of the success ladder while others sink to the bottom. Praised by social scientists, business theorists, and corporate leaders, Give and Take opens up an approach to work, interactions, and productivity that is nothing short of revolutionary.

Givers, Takers, and Matchers - we all fall in one or more categories. Which one is up to us and most likely based on circumstances. It burns down to the fact that the best and the worst performers are Givers - and Givers will succeed in the long run. "[...] when Givers win, people are rooting for them and supporting them, rather than gunning for them. Givers succeed in a way that creates a ripple effect, enhancing the success of people around them.” Adam Grant comes with plenty of relatable examples to make his points. Grant's writing is clear and easily relatable as was expected - with the exception of basketball and drafting references for his reasoning. If you are a non American non basketball whizz, those references are mighty confusing and hard to follow. The author lost me in that section. I had to read and reread in several attempts, which is the only reason I had to knock off some points in the overall rating. Otherwise this work is a solid, engaging and academic great food for thought.

Interesting and useful concept, writing style light and a bit commercial; but still useful!!!
