In ancient Greece, a skilled marble sculptor has been blessed by a goddess who has given his masterpiece--the most beautiful woman the town has ever seen--the gift of life. I love the way Miller writes. It's always wonderful. However, I didn't like the ending or the content. I know that she takes myths and flips them on their head, but this missed the mark for me.

3.5/5. First step into the world of Madeline Miller. Interesting experiment with mythology and story telling. Looking forward to reading her other works!

Average short story - the voice used is very different than her other works and I think lacking the richness I’m used to with Miller.

Very cool novella. I wish it were organized a little better because sometimes its hard to tell if the author is talking about the present or past.
