Furyborn (The Empirium Trilogy, 1)

The first book in the instant New York Times bestselling series, the Empirium Trilogy!

Furyborn is an epic YA fantasy about two fiercely independent young women, centuries apart, who hold the power to save their world...or doom it.

When assassins ambush her best friend, Rielle Dardenne risks everything to save him, exposing herself as one of a pair of prophesied queens: a queen of light, and one of blood. To prove she is the Sun Queen, Rielle must endure seven elemental magic trials. If she fails, she will be executed as the Blood Queen...unless the trials kill the queen first.

One thousand years later, the legend of Queen Rielle is a fairy tale to Eliana Ferracora. A bounty hunter for the Undying Empire, Eliana believes herself untouchable--until her mother vanishes. To find her, Eliana joins a rebel captain and discovers that the evil at the empire's heart is more terrible than she ever imagined.

As Rielle and Eliana fight in a cosmic war that spans millennia, their stories intersect, and the shocking connections between them ultimately determine the fate of their world--and of each other.

I read this on audio at 1.5 speed while I liked the narrator I didn’t connect and often felt she didn’t portray the emotion correctly: but that being said I throughly enjoyed this book. I have one issue, a factor I wish they didn’t revel until the end of like the second book maybe but then the plot wouldn’t have been the same. We jump from one view to another and it’s very quick to assume a certain plot path. But I enjoyed the world building and detail I and most certainly going to read the next book in the series

I really enjoyed the duel POV’s and the concept of this YA Fantasy. I liked each character individually but wish they were more closely related. I felt that the timelines being so far apart made the book feel like it should’ve been broken into books of their own. I think because of the timeline being so far apart it caused the pacing to slow down a lot. It felt like so much information and I started to lose interest. I pushed through and enjoyed the end but there was a lot of middle going on. I’m not sure yet if I’ll read the rest of the series as it is quite the undertaking.
