"Romantic, funny, hopeful, and unflinchingly real." --Becky Albertalli, New York Times bestselling author of Simon Vs. The Homosapiens Agenda

The uplifting story of an HIV-positive teen, falling in love and learning to live her truth.

Simone Garcia-Hampton is starting over at a new school, and this time things will be different. She's making real friends, making a name for herself as student director of Rent, and making a play for Miles, the guy who makes her melt every time he walks into a room. The last thing she wants is for word to get out that she's HIV-positive, because last time . . . well, last time things got ugly.
Keeping her viral load under control is easy, but keeping her diagnosis under wraps is not so simple. As Simone and Miles start going out for real--shy kisses escalating into much more--she feels an uneasiness that goes beyond butterflies. She knows she has to tell him that she's positive, especially if sex is a possibility, but she's terrified of how he'll react! And then she finds an anonymous note in her locker: I know you have HIV. You have until Thanksgiving to stop hanging out with Miles. Or everyone else will know too.
Simone's first instinct is to protect her secret at all costs, but as she gains a deeper understanding of the prejudice and fear in her community, she begins to wonder if the only way to rise above is to face the haters head-on. . . .

Honestly, this is a very beautiful book and I’ve never known anyone that experiences this so it was a very big eye-opener into something that in society is not talked about a lot

A fluffy YA read whose emotional punch sneaks up on you. To misquote Dr Doofenshmirtz: If I had $1 for every YA contemporary novel centering around a queer teenager who gets blackmailed but the book is not a thriller or big mystery at all and has plenty of cute and coming-of-age moments, then I’d have $3. Which is barely enough for breakfast cereal, but it’s weird that that happened thrice. (Full Disclosure, Felix Ever After, and Simon versus the Homo Sapiens Agenda) Simone was born HIV positive, was adopted by her dads, and wants to have the information she needs if she wants to have sex with someone. Her viral load is undetectable as long as she takes her meds every day, which is amazing to me that we’ve come so far with treating HIV. Ignorance and blind hatred, however, have not had the same progression. The conflicts of the novel mostly involve her status as HIV positive. Simone is believably written as a teenager, so don’t go into this expecting some perfect character that acts like an adult when they are 16. Although sexual awakening is a big theme here, nothing graphic shows up on the page. In fact, there’s a lot of jokes and uncomfortableness with that topic. The novel is first person, solely in Simone’s head. There’s a good balance of fluffy plot and tearjerker plot in my opinion. If you are not turned off by the above then you will love this book. Definitely worth my time and coin, 8/10.
