Foster

It is a hot summer in rural Ireland. A child is taken by her father to live with relatives on a farm, not knowing when or if she will be brought home again.
Claire Keegan’s piercing contemporary classic Foster is a heartbreaking story of childhood, loss, and love; now released as a standalone book for the first time ever in the US

Really enjoyed the Irish voice for the audiobook and the last chapters were really good, it’s just this type of light story isn’t for me.
This short story completely surprised and captivated me. Keegan is a master at creating powerful visuals, messages, and characters with minimal words. In just 92 pages you know these characters and grow to love some of them. What's it about? For me, it was all about acceptance, value, respect, love and the lack or loss of them. There is occasional humor along with loads of wisdom.
"We go to the ... chemist where she asks for Aunt Acid..." : )
"Many the man lost much just because he missed a perfect opportunity to say nothing."
A beautiful, touching story.
