I enjoied this book. Great pace and very intersting story. The twists and clues had me guessing one thing while it was another completely. The ending was satisfying!
First Lie Wins by Ashley Elston is a twisty thriller about Evie Porter, a woman living a seemingly perfect life with a charming boyfriend in a small town. But Evie isn’t who she says she is—her identity is fake, given to her by a mysterious figure known only as Mr. Smith. As Evie’s latest assignment unravels, she starts to question the people around her, her mission, and even herself. When secrets surface and danger creeps closer, Evie must figure out who she can trust—before her past catches up with her and everything comes crashing down.
I’m really torn on First Lie Wins. It was an engaging read with a unique premise, but it didn’t quite deliver on the level of suspense I was expecting. The pacing was decent, but the twists felt more confusing than thrilling at times. The story jumps between different timelines and identities, which I understand is essential to the plot, but it often left me feeling disoriented. I found myself constantly trying to remember which alias did what and when, which pulled me out of the experience a bit.
This was the first pick of the year for my book club. While it wasn’t a bad read by any means—it definitely sparked some good conversation—it just didn’t land as a standout for me. I think readers who love stories about deception and layered identities might enjoy it more, especially if they’re okay with a bit of a mental juggling act.
Overall, First Lie Wins had potential and interesting themes, but I just wish it had been a little tighter and more gripping.
At first when I started this book I couldn’t get into it. I but it down for a couple of weeks. I picked it up again I kept on reading and I was hooked. It kept me on my edge of my seat and want to know what happens next. I recommend this book
Enjoyed this story and couldn’t put it down. Mr. Smith the mysterious boss gives Evia assignments targeting people for money, after he discovers she has been stealing jewelry at parties. After finding out that her mother was dying from cancer, Evia was trying to make money for her mother’s medicine.
One of the jobs Mr. Smith gives Evia was to target Ryan Summer, who she falls in love with. As the story goes along we don’t know who we can trust.
This book would make a great Bookclub read, with all the twist and turns you don’t know where the story will lead you. When you get to the end of the book you’re not sure you didn’t miss a crucial part of the story.
