REESE'S BOOK CLUB PICK #1 NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER

"This fast-paced read has everything you could want in a thriller: secret identities, a mysterious boss and a cat & mouse game that kept me guessing the whole way through." --Reese Witherspoon

Evie Porter has everything a nice Southern girl could want: a doting boyfriend, a house with a white picket fence, a tight group of friends. The only catch: Evie Porter doesn't exist.

The identity comes first: Evie Porter. Once she's given a name and location by her mysterious boss, Mr. Smith, she learns everything there is to know about the town and the people in it. Then the mark: Ryan Sumner. The last piece of the puzzle is the job.

Evie isn't privy to Mr. Smith's real identity, but she knows this job isn't like the others. Ryan has gotten under her skin, and she's starting to envision a different sort of life for herself. But Evie can't make any mistakes--especially after what happened last time.

Evie Porter must stay one step ahead of her past while making sure there's still a future in front of her. The stakes couldn't be higher--but then, Evie has always liked a challenge. . . .

A good suspense, mystery novel. Fun plot and easy read. One of the better books I’ve read recently in this genre.

I know this took me forever to read, but really because I was reading a physical book and it’s never as convenient as my kindle.

BUT DAMN, this book was honestly so good. I loved it. Little cat and mouse vibe. I like that I didn’t figure it out at any point in the book. That tells you how good the writing is.

This book made me want to read more like this.

“There’s an old saying: The first lie wins. It’s not referring to the little white kind that tumble out with no thought; it refers to the big one. The one that changes the game. The one that is deliberate. The lie that sets the stage for everything that comes after it. And once the lie is told, it’s what most people believe to be true. The first lie has to be the strongest. The most important. The one that has to be told.”

Evie Porter has it all: The looks, the great personality, the perfect boyfriend which she met when her tire had a flat and she asked this guy, Ryan Summer to help her out. He was her knight in shining armor. Not only did he help her with her tire, when she offered to buy him a beer for his trouble, he replied, “only if I could buy you dinner in return.” Swooning over here! There’s just one little thing: Evie Porter isn’t her real name and she marked Ryan Summer so that she could get close to him.

In a world of duplicity and never having the same name twice, Evie Porter has to figure out what her boss wants from Ryan and what will happen when he finds out she fell for Ryan, in real life. She knows this mission is a test for her to win back her boss’s trust when she blotched the previous job. Is she about to make another huge mistake? One that could cost her her life?

Things are definitely not as they appear. For one thing, another girl comes to a party and her name happens to be Evie Porter’s real name. That girl looks like a doppelganger to Evie, complete with her history and sad story. As she races against time to figure things out, another glitch is thrown at her and she is wanted for questioning by the police. Evie now has to use Rachel, a lawyer who is an old friend of Ryan’s but smells something fishy about Evie from the get go.

Excellent read!

I pride myself in being able to figure out the twists in books. This book, however, kept me guessing until the very end! I would read this one over and over again.

I wish I had been keeping notes as I read. There’s so many little hints and connected events that I found myself going back in the book to reread. Definitely a must read for mystery/thriller lovers!
