From the first chapter, I felt like I was falling in love with Maverick right alongside Baylee. This book made me smile, swoon, and even tear up as I followed their journey from childhood best friends to a love that was worth the wait.
Maverick Walker is everything you want in a romance hero. He is thoughtful, patient, protective, and completely devoted once he makes up his mind. Baylee is a single mom who has been through her share of heartbreak, including the one Maverick gave her in high school. When life brings them back together under one roof and with one bed, the chemistry is undeniable, and the walls around Baylee’s heart start to crack.
One of the things I loved most was how Maverick treated Baylee’s son, Leo. He stepped right into a father figure role, not just including Leo in his life but making him a priority. He even encouraged Leo’s biological father to step up, which made me respect him even more. Maverick also knew how to romance Baylee. From the way he paid attention to her favorite snacks and jewelry to the big public gestures like proposing at halftime or recreating a swoony Top Gun piano moment, he made her feel loved and seen.
The intimacy between Maverick and Baylee was passionate, creative, and full of genuine connection. He knew exactly how to make her feel desired, even joking that she was the only one who could “wake him up” after his injury. And when he bought her the home she had dreamed about since they were young, promising to fill it with renovations and children, my heart melted.
There was a kidnapping subplot that felt a little out of place, but it didn’t take away from how much I adored this story. This is the kind of romance that makes you believe in second chances and in love that grows stronger with time.
