The intended age group should be able to relate to the main characters.
This is the first time I've read a book with a THREE person multi-perspective. I usually love when authors do a dual-perspective because you generally get insight that you can't from reading only first person, but I think having the 3rd perspective can be a little confusing at times; though you did get to know the main characters a bit better, there were time that the overlap back to the event didn't occur in a timely fashion.
The main characters were relatable, either you know someone or are that someone that one of these three fit into. The actions were all believable on the part of the main characters.
Bree's parents warned several times of an upcoming situation, but I think it took so long the character felt it was more of a "cried wolf" situation. From the perspective of the age group, the parents will not be liked, but it is a believable situation - what was unbelievable was Bree's response towards the end of the book, but that's just me... she magically did a lot of growing up after just one look, and then was wishy-washy back and forth of, if she will or won't... but I'm sure it will touch someone in the right way.
Ally's parents gave ZERO warning. This was supposedly a close-knit family and the adults failed significantly. Also, why would someone in their position chose this route? It doesn't make any sense, the reason was extremely weak for the change. They did a disservice to their history, the memory of the grandfather, and to their children... all for what, something - fake. Yeah, you don't need to move to do what they claim, but I guess the author had to make someone the bad guy.
Jack was my favorite character of the group. Ally and Bree both were essentially dealing with a situation life dealt them and they had to learn how to adapt, whereas Jack was the captain of his own ship. He grew and learned a lot on this journey. He learned the most about who he is and what he can be come, because this entire trip changed his destination based on something HE did not something that was done to him. He learned to accept himself in a way he hadn't before this journey. He helped others beyond what was expected of him initially, he did so on his own. His story is the one that makes the most sense because he grew base on his actions. The two girls learned to accept their fate, but neither one showed growth to the same level as Jack.
Overall, a good easy read that will keep the age group intended interested in what the characters are doing, have the right amount of outrage over injustices the parents served, and keep them cheering for or against certain characters.
