It’s like if the game Borderlands was a book. Zaney adventures with absurd, irreverent humor and lots of action. I really wanted to like it more but the jokes went a little too far and the cussing was a bit too much for me. Especially with using “GD” being in one of the characters “catch phrases”. Plus (and this is just a personal preference) there were SO many slimy monsters which gave me the big ick. Overall it was very funny and had lots of good action.
One of the best examples of the LitRPG genre. Unlike many other series in the genre, Carl isn't overpowered or immediately good at everything. Instead, he has realistic struggles, setbacks, and failures. Dinniman also shows a surprisingly deep emotional depth to the characters, with morals in shades of grey rather than black and white. I highly recommend this series.
