I actually enjoyed this book. The overall concept was endearing and it pulled at my heartstrings. I did think that the romance jumped a little two fast and could have done with more building and even the platonic relationships Iris builds throughout the book jumped from complete strangers to “I’d die for this person”. I also feel that the plot was under developed and while it’s a “romance” it’s still a “fantasy romance” and definitely needed more world building and character development. But as stated, I still enjoyed the story and will read the second!

Rating:⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5 Format: Ebook No regrets on this one at all! Was not a book on my TBR or one I was truly motivated to start, but I am glad I did! My bookclub truly knows what's best for me. With this book's unique storyline set in a time where most wouldn't dare to pair with Gods and magic, this was a real treat..... War is ever present and looming. But even with this, life must go on. The true feelings and relatability of the characters and situations have made this one a home run. The main character's backstory and journey left me in pieces with her goals, not even relating to finding love or romance. I went into this expecting something like ACOTAR. At first I was disappointed because it was.. barely a fantasy. However the story really pulled me in and it was beautiful. And THAT ENDING. 5 stars for the ending alone.

Not at all what I usually reach for but I'm so glad I gave it a chance. I highlighted so many passages in this book, it's just beautifully written. I didn't love the ending but I immediately downloaded the 2nd book to continue the journey!
