Should have read this one first

[ read via e-book loan from my local library]

First, I will start by saying that this was the third book I read in the series rather than the first as it should have been.

Unfortunately, this book was already checked out when I started the series with book 2. It was still checked out when I finish and continued on the book 3. I really should have waited and started with this one first that might have made a difference _ But then again.... The second book more than the third actually was able to stand on its own, but the references back to this book were many, and so finally being able to read this one I was able to put a couple more pieces together.

I found this want to be the best of the three and that's only because protagonist seemed more innocent in her nosy pursuits than in the next two books.

I do enjoy the authors writing style. On the other hand, his protagonist is terrible. She is a busybody that for some reason people are willing to accept all of her nosy questions and constantly being in people's faces. The police department utter disgrace, but for some reason couldn't figure out how to handle the investigation as it should have been done in the first place. A police officer that seems more willing to make bad judgments because just trying to make a good impression when in actuality does the opposite for the reader. Another police officer who is trying to make some kind of statement and himself appear where the of some sort of recognition when he seems to come across as doing is being a jerk. Not one but two horrible cats, one of which should never have been in a business that serves food unless of course you don't want consumers to come in. Allergies are a very real thing and unless you like to alienate potential customers you should eliminate any possible causes especially ones that like the cat because such a disruption. Why someone would do this when they are brand-new to opening a business is beyond reasonable belief. I really want to like this series, it really helps that the author has a good writing style but he really needs to find a better way of having his protagonist find information without seeming like such a nuisance. Even she knows she's a problem. Friend know she's a problem and tolerates it and even comes across as an enabler. I do like the way the story was set up I just think that the protagonist portion could have been done much better.
