"I've left some clues for you.
If you want them, turn the page.
If you don't, put the book back on the shelf, please."

16-year-old Lily has left a red notebook full of challenges on her favorite bookstore shelf, waiting for just the right guy to come along and accept its dares. Dash, in a bad mood during the holidays, happens to be the first guy to pick up the notebook and rise to its challenges.

What follows is a whirlwind romance as Dash and Lily trade dares, dreams, and desires in the notebook they pass back and forth at locations all across New York City. But can their in-person selves possibly connect as well as their notebook versions, or will their scavenger hunt end in a comic mismatch of disastrous proportions?

Co-written by Rachel Cohn (GINGERBREAD) and David Levithan, co-author of WILL GRAYSON, WILL GRAYSON with John Green (THE FAULT IN OUR STARS), DASH & LILY'S BOOK OF DARES is a love story that will have readers scouring bookstore shelves, looking and longing for a love (and a red notebook) of their own.

A charming YA book about two people who couldn’t be more opposite of one another. One loves Christmas (Lily) and the other one just doesn’t care for how commercialism has become and is very cynical (Dash) and he also just doesn’t love Christmas.

Lily is currently living with her older brother who finds her to be too isolated for the holidays as their parents went to Fuji Island for their missed honeymoon that they couldn’t afford when they originally got married.

Dash is alone for the holidays because his parents got a divorce around Christmas and they both wanted to do some spending alone time after the divorce so Dash tells them each, he’s going to spend the holiday with the other parent. This allows them to take the solo vacations they both needed and won’t feel guilty.

Lily’s brother knows Lily is socially awkward and he tries to get her to go out and have fun and meet and make friends. He takes one of her mole skin books and writes flirty things in it and tells her to place it in her beloved book store, The Strand. For those who don’t know, The Strand Bookstore is a legendary independent bookstore located at 828 Broadway, at the corner of East 12th Street in the East Village neighborhood of Manhattan, New York City. They were deeply affected by the pandemic and are struggling to stay alive. This was also in a documentary, called The Booksellers on Amazon Prime. All Lily has to do is to take her red skin mole and leave the notebook at a certain location and whoever picks it up, has to do the dares written inside and then complete the dares and then write back and leave it back in the same spot where they found it.

Dash, in a bad mood during the holidays, happens to be the first guy to pick up the notebook and rise to its challenges. What follows is a whirlwind romance as Dash and Lily trade dares, dreams, and desires in the notebook they pass back and forth at locations all across New York City. But can their in-person shelves possibly connect as well as their notebook versions, or will their scavenger hunt end in a comic mismatch of disastrous proportions?

I like that it's a Christmas story.
