Dark Waters (Small Spaces Quartet)

Filled with chills, New York Times bestselling author Katherine Arden’s latest installment in the creep-tastic Small Spaces Quartet is sure to haunt. Now in paperback.

Until next time. That was the chilling promise the smiling man made to Ollie, Coco, and Brian after they last outsmarted him. And as the trio knows, the smiling man always keeps his promises. So when the lights flicker and a knock sounds at the door, there can only be one explanation: he’s back and a frightening new game is afoot.

But before the three friends can unravel the smiling man’s latest nightmarish scheme, they set sail on Lake Champlain, where it’s said Vermont’s very own Loch Ness monster lives. Brian is thrilled. He hasn’t sailed since visiting family in Jamaica, and even the looming threat of the smiling man can’t put a damper on what is guaranteed to finally be a day of fun—even if it is awkward being stuck on a boat with his former best friend, Phil, and his new best friends, Coco and Ollie. But when this crew find themselves shipwrecked on a deserted island and hunted by a monster on both land and sea, fun becomes the last thing on their minds. The smiling man has at long last set the stage for a perilous rematch. But this time, Brian is ready to play.

New York Times bestselling author Katherine Arden returns with another creepy, spine-tingling adventure in this follow-up to the critically acclaimed Small Spaces and Dead Voices.

Dark Waters by Katherine Arden is the 3rd book of the Small Spaces Series. I loved the book 1 and 2 of this series and it's like my favorite. But this one is not literal. I mean, I liked the characters, the plot, and the cover but it's not the same excitement or thrilled I felt the 1st and 2nd book. But it's still a nice book and I really liked how the characters developed:)

HOLY MOTHER OF GOD. WHAT DID I JUST READ. Stars: 8.5/10 Katherine Arden has done an absolutely splectacular job at carefully crafting another hit story that I couldn't keep down. This story was full of nothing but suspenseful wonder and the looming question towards the end, "What's up with Ollie?" I absolutely adored every moment of this book, especially as it reintroduced Phil as a main character. It also got darker than the last two installments when it comes to events that weren't only happening for the spook factor. However, you got to dive into Brian's inner thoughts, including ones of the last two books. You get to see Arden's masterfully crafted art through the lens of everyone's favorite hockey boy, and boy is that great. The only flaws of this story? It felt like everything important happened in the last 20-30 pages. It also didn't live up to the creepiness of the works before it. That's literally it. Overall this book was amazing! I loved it and can't wait to read Empty Smiles. SPOILERS BELOW!!! HOLY THE ENDING WHAT WAS THAT ENDING OLLIE DID NOT JUST DO THAT NO I CAN'T I HATE HER I LOVE HER WHAT WAS SHE THINKING SHE'S SUCH A GIRLBOSS WHAT THE HECK OH MY GOD SHE DID NOT JUST OH MY GOD SHE DID I CANNOT. THIS IS A CHILDREN'S BOOK???
