What would you do if all your life, you played by the rules? You went to an IVY league university, married a doctor, and became that high-powered lawyer? You became what you studied to be from college. You even gave birth to a son which all families want to carry on the bloodline. And yet, when your old college roommate waltzes back into your life almost a century later, after seeing her, it makes you question everything about your life? Meet Ava and this is her life. On the surface, she achieved everything all women dream of. Enters, Winnie, an ex-college dormmate who came from China and literally went from âan average personâ to a person who you take notice of the minute she enters the room. What is so different about her? How did their lives become so stark in contrast? Wait, is that a Birkin handbag?!
Told in 2 POVs which made this book even more fascinating. We first find Ava spilling everything to the detective after she turned herself in and explained how Winnie got her into this mess. In the second half, we read Winnieâs version of the exact same story but we see it is vastly different from what Ava is telling the detective.
It is a recipe for a binge-worthy novel that is so suspenseful and it draws you in, which each chapter you read. You keep screaming, âno, no, no!â to Ava and later, laugh and say, âholy moly, you had me!â That is the best part because it kept me guessing and when my theory, in the end, was proven wrong by the author, it is an absolute delight for me. Fun and fast read and yet, afterward, as a woman, I feel empowered. Now how did that happen? Read it and find out.
