Sophia was made for him. Her perfect husband. She can feel it in her bones. He is perfect. Their home together in Arcadia Gardens is perfect. Everything is perfect.

It's just that he's away so much. So often. He works so hard. She misses him. And he misses her. He says he does, so it must be true. He is the perfect husband and everything is perfect.

But sometimes Sophia wonders about things. Strange things. Dark things. The look on her husband's face when he comes back from a long business trip. The questions he will not answer. The locked basement she is never allowed to enter. And whenever she asks the neighbors, they can't quite meet her gaze....

But everything is perfect. Isn't it?

Very short, a quick read that manages to keep you interested. This isn't a proper mystery or thriller, it very quickly gets to the meat of the plot. I had a lot of theories on what was actually going on (stepford wives, robots, even clones!) and was pleasently surprised when it was revealed to be a retelling of Adam and Eve. And once that was revealed it all clicked. It decieved me but did not lie to me. I recommend this book to anyone looking for a quick, dreamy, vibey read.

I wasn't sure I wanted to dive in. Not an ounce. Granted, I still did my thing where I dive into a book without reading the summary at the back. I like to go in blind. I don't search for thriller books. I read them and I tend to like them more. That's all. But i read all the genre. That being said.... I HAVE ZERO CLUE! WHAT THIS SHOULD BE CATEGORIZED AS! Anyway, I actually really loved this novella. It's definitely a retelling and I loved it. I love the writing, how even though it's a book I got the feeling that I for some reason screwed up and moved into this community of boring known as Arcadia Gardensnd Ha! That name is so much funnier when you get to the end. I just realized. 😂 This was like a blend of Stepford Wife, and Village of the Damned. There was this one point in the story where Sophia does something and everyone turns at once to look at her like a robot. Not only cringe but I literally buried my head and felt like the friend that is like, "you foo." The ending. I loved it. It's where you learn the twist and it's done so well as a big reveal because you're literally guessing til the end. Then your hope swells only to shake your head and wish for more pages. I need a double epilogue! ℂ𝕠𝕞𝕗𝕠𝕣𝕥𝕒𝕓𝕝𝕖 ℝ𝕖𝕒𝕕𝕚𝕟𝕘 𝘑𝘢𝘺 𝘔𝘢𝘺 𝘖𝘶𝘵

The novella proved to be a disappointing blend of fantasy and culinary themes. The convoluted narrative, filled with confusing fantastical elements and excessive prose, left characters feeling like mere caricatures. The promised emotional depth and comfort were conspicuously absent, making the reading experience more of a chore than a pleasure. In conclusion, this literary feast failed to deliver on both narrative and emotional fronts.

I'm still mulling this one over, but did enjoy it...though my face had a *constant* look of confusion on it The Entire Book. However, it was so well written and interesting that it makes me want to pick up another of Valente's books, so I feel like that's a win!
