City of Ghosts (1)

From #1 New York Times bestselling author Victoria (V.E.) Schwab (The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue) comes a sweeping, spooky, evocative adventure, perfect for fans of Stranger Things. An instant bestseller!

Ever since Cass almost drowned (okay, she did drown, but she doesn't like to think about it), she can pull back the Veil that separates the living from the dead . . . and enter the world of spirits. Her best friend is even a ghost.

So things are already pretty strange. But they're about to get much stranger.

When Cass's parents start hosting a TV show about the world's most haunted places, the family heads off to Edinburgh, Scotland. Here, graveyards, castles, and secret passageways teem with restless phantoms. And when Cass meets a girl who shares her "gift," she realizes how much she still has to learn about the Veil -- and herself.

And she'll have to learn fast. The city of ghosts is more dangerous than she ever imagined.

I thought this book was very witty and had a lot of awesome Harry Potter references! I think Cassidy was an enjoyable character, but Jacob is the best!
I would’ve liked this book a lot more if it wasn’t middle grade. Although, with that being said, it was cute how Victoria Schwab broke down the English to British slang for young readers to understand. Especially with my future kids and living in the Southern US, biscuits here are definitely not cookies. I mean, just try to imagine cookies covered in southern white gravy... but I digress.

I’m excited to see where they go next in their haunted tour!

Loved this! Cassidy and Jacob are a great pairing. Love seeing the most haunted places through this “lens”. The Raven in Red was such a good first antagonist for our future ghost hunters. This book is written very well and man oh man does it read fast, which I really appreciate.

This was a fun, easy read. I enjoyed the story telling, the characters, and the plot. Not too heavy of a theme. Very enjoyable read

Schwab has become one of my favorite authors. She writes mostly about magic’s afterlife- ghosts and other supernatural beings. This is a middle grade book. It held my attention and I enjoyed it. Nothing gruesome or gory- just some great ghost hunting. Book #93 in 2024
