I was intimidated to read this book because I thought it'd be dense and academic. How wrong I was! Wilkerson is a captivating writer who spins stories into ideas. She makes a big swing with this book, and it certainly made me think a lot.

This is an excellent and highly informative book. It is well written and interesting for cover to end. It is a must read for ALL of us.

One of the most important books I've ever read. I wish I'd read, discussed, and gave serious thought to the concepts of caste, structural racism, and white privilege much earlier in my life. The thing about privilege is it's really hard to see when you've been on the receiving end of it your entire life. This was very approachable and completely horrifying. I am still reeling at the idea that Nazis took their cues from AMERICAN Jim Crow laws. Turned my window on history upside down.
This book has so many profound ideas that I would highly recommend all white folks examine. And then maybe someday we can not be white and black, but just Americans.
