I really liked the character development, the smart and snappy political banter, and the character dynamic between the main characters Kayla and Matt because it added an unexpected dimension to the narrative, which made the pair an even more interesting and well-matched couple.

Their differences in politics definitely made for a realistic and believable relationship. I think that disagreements, open and honest opinion differences, and intelligent conversations help to build foundations in relationships because it shows that both individuals are compatible and that the two could have a mature, adult relationship.

Based on the way Matt and Kayla butted heads, disagreed, and just could not see eye to eye in the beginning, it proves that the strength of their relationship was rooted in something stronger than the rise of the crackling physical lure between Kayla and Matt.

It also prove that the two were not only with each other because of their physical attraction and with the odds against them, Matt’s political party, his presidency and the public eyes, it was moving to watch these two trudge through it all.

Although at times the story seemed to remind me of ABC’s Scandal, (but only very slightly) I really loved the way the author depicted Kayla’s character arc. As she discovered the president she thought was nothing more than an empty headed, playboy in the Oval Office, was actually a smart, committed, and dedicated man who always thought intently about his decisions and actions for the country.

I also liked how equally supportive Matt was when it came to Kayla and her desire to be a real reporter and not some columnist at a notorious “chick magazine.” He always treated her as an equal and I often forgot that when Kayla was talking so openly with Matt that she was talking to the President XD and the best part was that he never seemed phased by it.

At times, he seemed to encourage her to speak up. I do think this book is an easy 4 stars, but I’m not a fan of the picture perfect happy ends in books unless it’s in a series, which is why I gave it 3.89 stars. I would definitely re-read this book and recommend it for others to read as well.
