This is the first time I have read this book fully cover-to-cover and it was delightful and immersive! I must also add that what makes this story both uplifting and heart wrenching is the originality of its central character "Holly Golightly" an enigma or perhaps a "phony" or maybe just a young girl addicted to escapism...both naive and worldly and one that is utterly captivating and yet disappointing...childish and wise - really an assortment of dualisms...I love the fantastical elements of this story and its stark and harsh realities....you really are left with the same feeling as the narrator - longing for the presence of an absence that never truly existed and yet inevitably mattered....
I greatly enjoy Truman Capote's writing skills. However, I did not enjoy this book. Maybe it was due to the fact I was expecting it to be closer to the movie than it actually was. It was a great story, but I was lost in some of the story. I guess this would be the case in which the movie adaptation completely ruined my reading of this story.
I really don't know why people like this.
She's unlikable and annoying.
And the writing is offensive.

Knew little to nothing about this, but it's definitely not what I was expecting from what I'd heard about the movie. Nothing overly interesting, but the characters were just interesting enough.
This was so different from the movie. Capote's descriptions of Holly Golightly is at turns heartbreaking and charming, much like most of his short stories. She is a tragic character, trapped by her own desire to remain unattached.
