Beautiful Disaster: A Novel (Beautiful Disaster Series)

Now a major motion picture! The “deliciously intense” (USA TODAY) New York Times bestselling phenomenon follows a good girl drawn to a very bad boy...
The new Abby Abernathy is a good girl. She doesn’t drink or swear and has the appropriate number of cardigans in her wardrobe. With the darkness of her past behind her, she believes her freshman year at college is the start of a new beginning. But then she meets Travis Maddox.
Lean, cut, and covered in tattoos, Eastern University’s Walking One-Night Stand is exactly what Abby needs to avoid. Intrigued by her resistance to his appeal, Travis tricks her with a simple bet. If he loses, he must remain abstinent for a month. If Abby loses, she must live in his apartment for the same amount of time. Either way, Travis has no idea that he has met his match in this “beautifully sexy, beautifully intense, and beautifully perfect” (Jessica Park, New York Times bestselling author).

Frankly, I’m not in the mood to write a review, so I’m going to keep it short.
Beware. There are spoilers below.
I realize that some people have very strong opinions about this book, but I enjoyed it.
I tend to like friends-to-lovers based stories... and I have a thing for alpha males in books. 😏
One thing I’d change about this book is that for someone who’s known as a “walking one night stand”... the sex scenes with Travis weren’t very steamy.
I think my favorite character in the book was America. I think throughout the book she was a very loyal friend... I mean, she even broke up with Shep because he was on the “wrong side” of an argument involving Abby and Travis. I think it was also cool of her to be so protective of Abby and that she understands the toxic background in which Abby was raised.
I also think it was interesting that Abby came from a Poker playing family. I learned how to play Texas Holden at a young age, so I could appreciate that detail.
I felt like the ending had escalated quickly, but I am curious where the story will go from there.

The title of this book is perfect. Travis and Abby are so messed up but their love is so perfect. I really enjoyed reading about this dysfunctional college romance with the campus bad boy. It was a quick read. And there were some twists and turns. Travis is full of drama to keep you turning pages. Travis is tatted up, riding a Harley, fighting underground to pay for college, and an honor student. Tell me that’s not sexy. Yes, he has serious anger and jealousy issues. But it gets me when people compare fiction to real life. It’s called entertainment. If you want to read about real life there are plenty of non-fiction books out there. I don’t want to read about the same real life character over and over. Travis has a bad boy edge to him. And I’m not sorry I had a smile on my face while I was reading it. I am looking forward to the next book “Walking Disaster”.
Now as a parent I feel like I should provide a warning. I know a lot of 13-18 year olds read young adult books. But if I had a 13-15 year old daughter, I would not be comfortable with her reading this book. It doesn’t go into graphic detail of sexual acts. There is a lot of drinking, sex, and violence. If Beautiful Disaster was a movie I’d rate it PG-17.

I don’t know what I was expecting when I bought this book but I absolutely loved it!! Most romance books are stupid and cheesy but this one different. Relationships aren’t always perfect, you have to work at it. I love how Jamie McGuire captured this concept in this series. I can’t wait to read more of Abby and Travis’s story.
This book really is saucy, but the back and forth between these characters drove me fckn insane! Overall enjoyed this super quick read but was glad it was over.
Undecided between 3.5 and 3.75 stars. It did leave me with a good HEA feeling, despite all of the drama and toxicity, which I tend to rate higher, but the subject matter was a little juvenile. My TBR wheel picked this book for me and I went in without expectations. It is definitely what I would consider a “guilty pleasure” read, about a toxic relationship between teenaged college students who do and get up to ridiculous and unbelievable things, but it was ultimately very titillating, and I couldn’t help but enjoy it, in the same way I enjoyed shows like The OC. I will consider reading the sequel, but probably not for a while.
