Lovely slice of life story about an elderly lady learning to love again with penguins, the sadness of lost love and revelations about not forgotten love at the end make it a lovely read. Some storylines lead nowhere but are easy enough to ignore in favour of the learning of how people become the way they are and that even in old age you can still learn new things and grow as a person (with the help of an adorable baby penguin )

I’m going to Tenerife to stay with brother til 23rd so no way. Loved the book after first few paragraphs. All about a pensioner to that wanted to see if she would leave her large amount of money when she died. Antarctic but the penguins and she had a lovely caring of a orphan penguin. I cried! Reading next one now. Xxx

A thoroughly enjoyable read . Veronica McCreedy grew on me . She is a lady of her time . What a sad life she had in her early years, due to the World War 2. The loss of her parents, so suddenly at a very influential age and then her love Giovanni and then baby Enzo . So many people who lived in that time bottled up their emotions , after losing so many of their family and friends, my Father was one of them . But I do think it made them strong and capable people . I enjoyed the old and the new coming together, computers , email , writing letters , blogs . As Patrick read through his Granny’s diaries and found out about her life ,it always makes me feel sad that old people are just dismissed , as old . We don’t take the time to find out about them or use their knowledge. Also a very clever and unusual setting . An enjoyable read .
