I feel in love with Charlotte's book, FURY, so when I was asked to join the tour for AVERY, I jumped at the chance. Charlotte's writing is amazing, and I love these emotional, powerful worlds she creates. While I will admit I didn't fall in love with this book as hard and fast as I did as her other - overall I did love it.
Fantasy isn't my favorite genre on a good day - so I was a little nervous on how this would play out with me. And honestly? The first 20% or so was hard for me to get into. Fantasy's are always slow in the beginning (for me) because the author has to take the world and build it for you, without too much so we don't complain of info-dump; and not to little we are lost. So yes, the beginning was slow. I was indifferent, and couldn't really get a good feel for where the story was going. I do believe this is purely personal preference, and obviously it didn't hinder my enjoyment overall.
We have four main characters in AVERY. What is unique, is all POV are first person. Charlotte did an amazing job to create not one, but four unique, distinct voices for these characters. Although all four characters play a huge part in the overall story arc, I would say Ava is the "main" character. All the characters are on their own journey, but hers was the hardest to witness.
It's really hard to summarize one sole thing about AVERY. There was a lot going on between the romance, a characters redemption and the action. It's hard to tackle one without spoiling another. There are many surprising twists and I was blown away by how everything was pieced together and intertwined.
There are many good things I can say about Charlotte's writing - but the one thing I love most is how she is able to take such highly emotional, sensitive material, and work it. She explains things thoroughly and looks at everything in different angles - leaving me to see the picture as a whole, instead of one side. I know it doesn't make much sense - and I wish there was a better way to explain it. The gist is - she is brilliant.

I loved it. Even though it took a little bit for me to get into, I am so glad I picked AVERY up. A heartbreaking journey of love, loss and hope. Second chances and peace. Of finding love after you thought all was lost. Of learning to love yourself, to forgive yourself and ultimately, move on. I highly recommend.
