I'd probably give this 3.5 stars if Goodreads would allow half ratings, but I lean toward three simply because the longer I think about it, the more questions I have. I should probably just stop and appreciate the easy (in terms of difficulty, not emotional weight), entertaining read. There's a post-script chapter from April's perspective that is available for free from the author, and I'm baffled as to why it wasn't included in the actual novel because it might be my favorite part of this story. But overall, I would sum up my thoughts by saying I just wanted more. The author hints at so many interesting concepts and themes, but none of them are ever really explored or fleshed out other than simply naming them. I would be really interested to see what this story could accomplish over 500+ pages just to give it a bit more time to weave these important themes more coherently into the narrative.
