This book takes your heart and makes it dance with the madness of love and the struggle of a girl's growth into her own woman through the terrible misogyny of the medical field in early 19th century Edinburgh.
A witch, a caretaker, a doctor. Hazel becomes the powerful figure that I live to honour and replicate.
And the romance is done phenomenally, growing from a friendship of convenience into mutual love and appreciation.
I wish I got to see shitty people get more comeuppance, but the lack of it does lend to the commentary that money buys the privilege of getting away with the worst that humanity can do to each other.

I have been waiting so long to read this book! I stay obsessed with noble blood, so as soon as I heard about Dana’s book, I knew I had to get my hands on it. I really enjoyed it, but honestly I was v underwhelmed by the ending. It gave me similar vibes as Addie La Rue, which I feel like everyone has read. I mostly really enjoyed it? I think if it didn’t have this immortality twist it’d be 5/5.
Also Bernard is and will always be the absolute worst.
