Welcome to future America, where faith is outlawed or considered hate speech. This is not an impossible future: Christians despised, criminalized, and, if they can't get in line, eliminated. Technology is god now, with devices implanted in the brain that basically give you access to everything. It's a computer behind your eyelids. Even that is enough for humanity, they want more. More human like robots, more emotional algorithms. Humanity wants it all. Except God.
And the Bible teaches us what happens when nations begin to turn their back on God. Eventually He has enough, eventually His wrath will will come down on the wicked.
And that's what this novel is leading up to. And I say leading because this only feels like part of the story. The ending was truly anticlimactic.
After all this to-do about God's wrath coming down on the city of Chicago, the prophesies of the city being destroyed...what happened? What happened in Chicago? Is it still coming? Did it already happen?
I felt a little let down by the ending. And by the lack of actually warning people. A select few were chosen to help with the message, but where was the 'warn people before it's too late' and 'tell them God's wrath is coming and they need to repent'? That's what these people claim to be sent for, but they spend their time going after corporations and CEOs, which, while all well and good, isn't all they should be doing. What about the rest of the people? what about the Gospel message?
I'm just left with so many questions. I'm not sure what I got out of this book other than a glimpse into a possible future for America and a need for more people willing to go out and warn people today.
