Holy Anxiety!
I loved this book and flew through it in a day. It's a semi-science fiction book in the not so distant future that has the pleasure of giving you intense anxiety if you didn't already have it before....
In this one we have Rowena and Jacob Snyder, living in Silicon Valley in Jacob's childhood home with their young daughter. Rowena, unfortunately, is a giant mess. She misses their former life in New York and suffers from anxiety, depression, and a host of other stuff that drives her husband crazy. His only cure for her is, "Honey did you take your pills?" "Honey, take your meds," etc etc, until finally he gives her Maxine, a AI robot who excels in predicting the future and is Taylor made for individuals with anxiety. We soon find that Jacob is not in consideration for husband of the year (Unlike myself who is).
Rowena and Maxine get along like peas and carrots until one day Maxine calmly tells her, "Prediction: Your husband is going to try and kill you."
So of course Rowena goes off the rails and so does this book. This book is short and sweet as it flies at a furious pace until the end. You don't know who to trust and will be cursing Rowena and the decisions she makes as she tries to cope with Maxine's ongoing horrifying predictions.
In short I was really entertained by this book and am now a huge fan of it's author: Faith Gardner. This will be the first in a series and I can't wait to read the next.
