Am I Perfect Yet?: Finding Fullness in My Authentic Self

Am I Perfect Yet? is a compelling memoir that delves into the journey of Grace Patterson, as she confronts the demons of eating disorders, including anorexia, bulimia, and the relentless pursuit of perfection. Grace's story takes readers through the highs and lows of her life, from her time as a college cheerleader to her experiences as a semi-pro and professional cheerleader, where the pressure to conform to society's beauty standards intensified her struggles. But it doesn't end there. Grace's decision to move to the city of Los Angeles becomes a turning point in her life as she embarks on a path of self-discovery and healing. Immersed in the world of on-screen acting, she finds purpose unearthing a new found sense of identity. With raw honesty, Grace shares her triumphs and setbacks. Through her story, readers are reminded of the power of perseverance and the beauty of embracing our flaws. Finding happiness in who we are, not in who the world wants us to be.

Am I Perfect Yet? By Grace Patterson is a memoir that follows her journey battling eating disorders and learning to love herself with all her imperfections instead of striving for perfection. The memoir sheds light on something a large percentage of people, especially women go through due to the impossible standards of beauty set by society. She also highlighted several problems in the field of competitive cheerleading and dancing. The grueling body checks and objectification they go through at the hands of their coaches suggests a glaring need for reform in those fields (Patterson assures us that said reform is currently in motion). The book also speaks to the part in all of us that pushes us to strive for an impossible perfection and beat ourselves up when we cannot achieve it. By her own experiences, she shows us the importance of loving ourselves, flaws and all, in little ways that make all the difference. The book leaves you feeling deep emotions and desperately wanting to examine your life and find the little ways you have been cruel to yourself so you can rectify them. I found myself determined to show my body the love and care she deserves after reading this. It is definitely worth the read and you will find yourself willing to change your life for the better after reading this memoir.
