Again, Rachel is the sequel to Rachels Holiday, which she wrote over 25 years ago (1997) This is also part of the Walsh family series, 7 books about 5 sisters and their mammy. The Setting The story takes place between 2012-2018, all the present scenes happen in Dublin, Ireland, but the past is set in New York, America!
The Characters
The main character is Rachel Walsh, the middle Walsh sister. She is now an addiction councellor and helps people with addiction in The Cloisters, where she herself went to rehab. The way Marian writes about the counselling process and the way addicts think is so real, she really has put her experience (or similar experiences of adicts) into these books
Rachelâs now ex boyfriend Luke is back and challenges her on why they broke up and he left six years previously.
Plot
Beginning: at the beginning we focus on Rachelâs work with her âducklingsâ and Luke is cold and uncaring.
Marian drip-feeds the reason they broke up and the moments leading up to it, including the tradgedy that befalls them and the aftermath.
Everything did finally work out in the end, through support from Rachelâs extensive family (see tree) and friends
Conclusion
I bawled my eyes out reading this book, itâs a heavy read! Read this book if you enjoyed Rachelâs holiday â but not if you have (young) kids!
content warnings of: addiction, child death and miscarriage.
