Oh my word, the sass! This book was an absolute delight.

Harriet Peabody is...er, was a hat lady, until a run-in with a snobby society lady sees her relieved of her position. (Harriet may or may not have slung said snobby lady over her shoulder and carried her off.) Oliver Addleshaw, part "fiancee" of the snobby lady and part hapless bystander, feels obligated to make it up to Harriet, so her offers an outrageous amount of money to pose as his fiancee...(Yea, that's not confusing at all) Nothing can go wrong with this, right?

Hahahahaha, you don't know Harriet. I mean, at one point the woman (while in Delmonico's, a restaurant for the well-to-do) stands up from the table, tosses her napkin onto the table, and proceeds to crawl beneath it to hide from someone...with a duke and his daughter sitting on the other side of the table, no less!

And that's just one of many instances. So, not exactly realistic or true to the setting, but hilarious nonetheless.

This is a perfectly fluffy book. I mean, the characters are colorful and crazy, the plot is almost outrageous (same with the plot twist at the end), and the dialogue had me laughing out loud!

This book certainly wasn't very realistic, and felt a lot more modern than the era accounted for, but if you're just reading for the sake of being amused, that doesn't matter as much.

The plot twist was unexpected, verrryyyy unexpected, and I have to say...I'm not a fan. It seemed entirely too cliche, and I could have done without it, to be honest. But the rest of the book was delightful.

The Christian aspect of this book was weak and lacking, with only a few cursory mentions sprinkled in. Definitely not enough for me to label this Christian Historical Romance.

I'm pretty sure I want to read more of this author (she reminds me a lot of Mary Connealy, and I used to be a huge fan). Apparently this is pretty standard fare for her, so if more sass and hilarity is to be expected, bring it on.
