It felt like there wasn’t as much action in this book as the first. It felt like there wasn’t much of a plot. The whole book was spent trying to mend what fell apart in the first and getting to Atlantia.
While this book was fairly decent, it had one of my LEAST favorite tropes - miscommunication. & OH BOY was there a lot of it. The last 70-80% of the book was really good, and that's what brings up the rating for me.
Now don't get me wrong, I love the characters and how they are developing (albeit, super slowly) and I can appreciate the actions sequences and how well they are written. Overall I love the premise and overarching story. I just feel like there is way too much filler and way too much downtime. If it takes weeks or days to get somewhere, we don't need a play by play of each of those days and weeks. I feel like entire chapters were taken up by this kind of filler.
Overall, it was a good second book, although I think the first was better as far as pacing. Hopefully we get more character development in the third book! I know Poppy is a complete badass but I want her to own it more!

Omg, this whole series has me constantly on the edge of my seat. Not to mention, the spice is really nice 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️😅😋
I absolutely loved this book.
I can relate to Poppy as a character, especially in a way she overthinks. I spent a lot of this book wanting to take her by the shoulders and shake some sense into her about her feelings, but at the same time I think her evolution was very realistic and understandable. She was betrayed and had to cope and process that.
And it made it so rewarding when she and Casteel finally figured out their relationship as Cas and Poppy, instead of Hawke and Poppy.
Also, I am loving Kieran. I need to see more of him in the next book.
And THAT ENDING! OMFG. I. NEED. Book two tomorrow. It was definitely worth waiting to read the second one so I could minimize my book hangover!

I had started listening to this book almost immediately and it did not disappoint me. Poppy and Casteel have such great banter and chemistry.
Listening to more about this new world and Poppy's journey as she figures out herself was as amazing as I could have expected. Her endless curiosity is so refreshing.
Casteel's sense of duty, love and loyalty makes him so much more desirable and Kieran? He definitely needs a special mention. He's interesting, funny and I'd like to know more about him.
I can safely say that this book was better than the first and I cannot wait to listen to the next audiobook in the series.
