A Killer's Mind

The New York Times and Washington Post bestselling serial-killer thriller that will leave you wondering, is the past really in the past?

Three Chicago women have been found strangled, embalmed, and posed as if still alive. Doubting the findings of the local PD's profiler, The FBI calls on forensic psychologist Zoe Bentley to investigate.

Zoe quickly gets off on the wrong foot with her new partner, Special Agent Tatum Gray. Zoe's a hunter, intense and focused; Tatum's a smug maverick with little respect for the rules. Together, they must descend into a serial killer's psyche and untangle his twisted fantasies, or more women will die. But when the contents of three inconspicuous envelopes reveal a chilling connection to gruesome murders from Zoe's childhood, suddenly the hunter becomes the hunted.

I’ve been up since Midnight trying to finish this book, so please forgive me if all of my thoughts aren’t coherent and for the possible run on sentences.

I was so excited for this book. Even more excited than I was for The Last Time I Lied, where I literally shrieked and hugged the book to my chest when I saw it at Books-A-Million. I’m an absolute SUCKER for books about FBI profilers and I will forever blame Criminal Minds. Although, Zoey Bentley isn’t necessarily a FBI profiler, calling her a forensic psychologist who is a civilian consultant for the FBI’s BAU department, is a mouthful... hence just calling her a profiler.
The story line was great! Extremely morbid and disturbing, but greatness is greatness, who am I to judge?
My only justifications for rating this book four stars instead of five, is the amount of time it took me to read the book. I thought I would devour this book, but instead it was more like an aggressive snacking rather than a full on annihilation of a meal. Not all parts of this book were chalk full of drama, which I respect. This seemed to be very similar to a detective show and (from what I can imagine) realistic. Although, whether it was the nature of having a complex mystery and trying to sort out the clues or just my subconscious needing more drama..:something kept me from binge reading this book.
But all in all, I really enjoyed this book and I have already recommended two people this book, before even finishing it.

Let’s take a moment... that ending though!
I need the second one. Like. Now. That’s right, I’m talking to you Mike Omer.

The only thing I questioned was why they didn’t pick up this particular lead... Why didn’t they try to find out where this regular guy (who isn’t an undertaker) get all of that formaldehyde and the formaldehyde machine?! Those aren’t just some normal items you pick up from the local Wal-Mart. I understand that he could’ve hypothetically bought it online, even though we readers knew he bought it at a store before killing Lily. Idk. I’m not a detective... officially, anyways. 🕵🏻‍♀️

I have always loved FBI thriller books. When I saw this book on my TBR list and that the series is available on kindle unlimited, which I just joined, I decided to go with it. So glad I did! Zoe Bentley is a forensic psychologist who is working with the FBI. Her new partner Agent Tatum Gray was just assigned to her office from LA. They both have pasts they don’t want to share but that also makes them both a bit touchy. Naturally they get off on the wrong foot with each other. They get assigned to Chicago where a serial killer is killing women, embalming them and posing them in real life situations. This book bounces back and forth from Zoe’s past to the present. We learn why Zoe is how she is and will her past come back to haunt her? Can she be objective? Will Tatum have her back? A fast paced read with short chapters that will keep you wondering who the killer is until the end. Looking forward to book two in the series!
