A Dirty Job: A Novel

By Christopher Moore

Charlie Asher is a pretty normal guy—a quintessential Beta Male—with a normal life, married to a bright and pretty woman who actually loves him for his normalcy. They're even about to have their first child. Yes, Charlie's doing okay—until people start dropping dead around him, and everywhere he goes a dark presence whispers to him from under the streets. Charlie Asher, it seems, has been recruited for a new position: as Death.

It's a dirty job, being a grim reaper. But, hey! Somebody's gotta do it.

So-so. I didn't mind getting through it but I feel like it's like chick-lit for married guys maybe?

A fun read but in the end, not really my cup of (weak, green) tea. Charlie Asher's wife Rachel dies suddenly soon after giving birth to their daughter Sophie. Shortly after that, Charlie learns he's become one of the chosen ones, a "Death Merchant," collecting the souls of the dead to make sure they move on to their next destination. But there are forces from the Underworld who are looking to make trouble so they can once again rule the world from above.
Fantasy, with more than a touch of silly humor.
