A Conjuring of Light: A Novel (Shades of Magic, 3)

Witness the fate of beloved heroes and notorious foes in the heart-stopping conclusion to V.E. Schwab's New York Times bestselling Shades of Magic trilogy.

*Kirkus' Best Fiction of 2017*

As darkness sweeps the Maresh Empire, the once precarious balance of power among the four Londons has reached its breaking point.

In the wake of tragedy, Kell--once assumed to be the last surviving Antari--begins to waver under the pressure of competing loyalties. Lila Bard, once a commonplace--but never common--thief, has survived and flourished through a series of magical trials. But now she must learn to control the magic, before it bleeds her dry.

An ancient enemy returns to claim a city while a fallen hero tries to save a kingdom in decay. Meanwhile, the disgraced Captain Alucard Emery of the Night Spire collects his crew, attempting a race against time to acquire the impossible.

Such a fitting end to this story. The world was saved, but not without surmountable loss. I wish these characters did not have to suffer so much to get the endings they deserved, but it made this story that much more beautiful. We got magic, friendships, family, and love - but not without betrayal, death, torture, and suffering. Kell and Lila sail off into the sunset, while Rhy and Alucard spend their time loving each other at the palace. None of them thought they would end up where they did, but they all absolutely deserved it. V.E. Schwab has a gift for making you fall in love with the characters and with the world in her stories. I’m sad for this ending, but I know we will return to this world soon with her new series.

Didn’t love this one as much as the others maybe 3.5 instead but that’s perhaps because I overdosed on the last two reading them back to back in two weeks.

This book filled in many of the holes in the backstory of the characters - particularly Holland who I came to like a lot.

The entire series is absorptive and transportive. Enjoyed it and would recommend it if you want something completely different and away from this world.
