I read this book as a favor and I was surprised at how it actually told a decent story. The characters were all varied, and had to problem solve and accept new hardships in order to continue their fight to defeat the dark Prince. The story also didn’t lose anything through the graphic novel. The story was told concisely and nothing was lost in the translation between the graphics and the words. This was the second installment in a series and it provided a good way to show how the characters struggled. The main girl Oona is a sand dancer and she and her sister Jessa, have been seperated for several years and Jessa was instrumental in the previous failure in the last book. Oona also learns that she is adopted and from the planet Atbal-Balak. She travels there in order to stop the reforming of the Queen’s arm and the release of the Mimic’s heart. They defeat the prince but her sister Jessa sacrifices herself in the process. An Tzu has a mysterious disappearing illness and he has to be saved by a plant figure. He dreams and comes to realize he’s been racist against blue-skinned people who were only fighting the darkness just like him. Her other friend Jax seemingly dies but is later found to be alive and leaves the cliffhanger for the next book of how he managed his survival.
