28 Summers
A "captivating and bittersweet" novel by the #1 New York Times bestselling author of Summer of '69: Their secret love affair has lasted for decades--but this could be the summer that changes everything (People). When Mallory Blessing's son, Link, receives deathbed instructions from his mother to call a number on a slip of paper in her desk drawer, he's not sure what to expect. But he certainly does not expect Jake McCloud to answer. It's the late spring of 2020 and Jake's wife, Ursula DeGournsey, is the frontrunner in the upcoming Presidential election. There must be a mistake, Link thinks. How do Mallory and Jake know each other? Flash back to the sweet summer of 1993: Mallory has just inherited a beachfront cottage on Nantucket from her aunt, and she agrees to host her brother's bachelor party. Cooper's friend from college, Jake McCloud, attends, and Jake and Mallory form a bond that will persevere--through marriage, children, and Ursula's stratospheric political rise--until Mallory learns she's dying. Based on the classic film Same Time Next Year (which Mallory and Jake watch every summer), 28 Summers explores the agony and romance of a one-weekend-per-year affair and the dramatic ways this relationship complicates and enriches their lives, and the lives of the people they love.

Summer isnât summer until Iâve read Elin. Stayed up to the wee hours reading and cried like a baby.
Such a sweet, and also sad, story. Easy to read. One thing I found super entertaining is the highlight of current events at the beginning of each chapter(year) that represented what was taking place in that particular year.
Enjoy!
It was a good story, but there were some issues. Dupont Circle metro is below ground, so when the character ascended the escalator, as is written, she would have spilled the contents of her purse on the street, not the station floor. The math for the paternity of one of the characters does not work. Overall, it was a good story, but those kinds of things annoy me.
This book left me not okay. I absolutely love this author. The first book I read of hers, The Hotel Nantucket, I did not enjoy. However, this is now my third book that I have read and each one has gotten better. This book is about two people who make a commitment to spend 3 days together each year no matter what is going on in their separate lives. It was romantic and left you with a longing for the next year. I could not imagine being in Mallory or Jake's position. This book had the amazing description of food, nature, and design that you can expect from this author. However, this is the first book that I have read from her, that I know I will be thinking about for a long time.
