Our mission at Bookclubz is to inspire meaningful connections through reading and discussion. We believe in the power of book club to enhance the reading experience, support lifelong learning, and build community.

That’s why it is our goal to stop book club breakups. From inspirational blog posts, to highlighting the multitude of wonderful clubs on our Join a Book Club page, all month long we gave you the tools to create a thriving book club, or revamp your current club to ensure its success.

We began by asking: Have you ever had a book club break up? Your responses were insightful, challenging, and sometimes hilarious.

  • “I left a club because a member ruined my couch during a meeting & didn’t apologize!”
  • “I just couldn’t get myself to read the first book. Never got off the ground, whoops.”
  • “We are currently on a break. Hope we can work it out!”
  • “People continually made excuses for not reading the book and flaked out.”
  • “A Christmas book club filled with hate, intolerance, and snobbishness. So disturbing!”

In response, we spotlighted some of our features that have helped thousands of clubs makeup instead of breakup. These are the ones we included.

  • Automatic meeting reminders help keep your club on track.
  • Polling helps members stay engaged and excited about their next read.
  • Monthly recommended reading points you to perfect book club picks.
  • Our amazing Join a Book Club page helps you find your book people.

Bookclubz is your biggest supporter in all reading endeavors, on your own and within a club. So, we asked you: What qualities do you look for in a book club member? Here are some of your responses.

  • “Reliability”
  • “An active participant”
  • “Committed”
  • “Takes initiative”

Lucky for you, your ideal book club members are out there, and you can find them on our Join a Book Club page! From genre specific clubs to local communities, there’s a club out there for everyone. Check them out here.

Finally, one of the quickest ways for a book club to dissolve is from a lack of inspiration. Book club is fun, and we want to keep it that way. In light of this, we polled you on how you typically prepare for a book club meeting. Here’s how you all voted.

  • What’s more important to your book club?
    • A: Good food (48%)
    • B: Good drinks (52%)
  • What would you rather have?
    • A: A good question (57%)
    • B: A good comment (43%)
  • What about…
    • A: Background music (46%)
    • B: No music (54%)

We concluded with an open-ended question: How else do you prepare for a book club meeting? Here are some of the things you shared.

  • “Create custom questions.”
  • “If in person, make sure everyone is comfortable.”
  • “Book themed snacks and drinks!”

We were so excited to share all of these great ideas and include some of our own through our Book Club Inspiration tab on the blog. Take a look at it here.
