About What Christians Should Know
Out of a population of 8 billion, nearly 2 billion people on Earth identify as Christian, but what do they really know about the historical aspects of Christianity? Sirach 3:25 ...without knowledge there is no wisdom. If knowledge is power, then knowledge, facts, and reality are as important as faith, love, and belief. Join "What Christians Should Know": to learn what Biblical scholars teach about Christianity. This book club is not meant to be Sunday Bible School class on theology. It's a respectful place for all to discuss and share historical perspectives on the Hebrew Bible, Old Testament, and New Testament.
- Update: Currently cancelled. Meetings: Once a month at 3pm, probably on a Sunday.
- If you have read a specific book related to Christianity and would like to start a discussion thread through Direct Messages. Please do!
- Ideally, we will also include books such as Documents for the Study of the Gospels and other authors that either agree with Ehrman, or even disagree, to provide a well-rounded look at what scholarship says about the Bible.
- Hopefully, in the future...Meetings will be through Zoom, link sent with acceptance to the book club, and respect for each individual's perspective is imperative; whether Christian, non-Christian, other religious beliefs, agnostic and/or atheist.
- The goal is to discuss the history of Christianity, and not necessarily theology (though it will come up, no doubt).
- Depending on members' time and resources, books may be divided by several chapters, or half the book, or the whole book. We will see what works for members.
Questions to join are to keep membership small as admin learns the ropes. They're pretty simple to answer.
