About The Poor Scholar Book Club
The Poor Scholar Book Club is a monthly gathering hosted at Idlewild Wines in Healdsburg, meeting one Wednesday each month from 5–6 PM.
Created as a way to encourage continual learning and deeper conversation, the club brings together thoughtfully curated literature and wines from Idlewild and Comunità. Wine serves not as the destination, but as a bridge—creating community around stories, ideas, and discussion.
Selections are curated by Daniel and range from contemporary works to classic literature, with a particular appreciation for Italian authors and regional storytelling. Some books explore place and culture, others revisit familiar writers through lesser-known works, but all are chosen with intention.
This is a club for readers looking to engage with literature that asks questions and leaves room for reflection. Themes of identity, society, morality, belonging, and the human condition often find their way into our discussions. While welcoming and community-centered, The Poor Scholar is designed to be more than casual reading—it is a space to challenge ourselves, share perspectives, and remain students of the world around us.
Upcoming selections include works by Elena Ferrante, F. Scott Fitzgerald, Ernest Hemingway, Carlo Levi, Leonardo Sciascia, and Alessandro Manzoni.
