Regenerative Reads

We focus on heart-opening books about shaping a world that works with a particular interest in sustainability, nature, and climate change: inspirational and science-based books that are beautifully written and wonderful to hear. We like selections that break new ground, books that are nominated by trusted sources and beloved best-sellers such as The Hidden Life of Trees, part of a series by Peter Wohlleben, or well-researched shockers such as The Weight of Nature: How a Changing Climate Changes Our Brains by literary journalist and trained neuroscientist Clayton Page Aldern. 

Regenerative Reads book club members are invited to participate in polls to help select our books. Chosen books must be available in audio format. Members are encouraged to submit their book suggestions through the Bookclubs app.

We meet on the last Monday of each month from 6-8 PM Eastern, so members have ample time to read and enjoy each selection. If Monday is a US holiday, we'll meet on Tuesday of that week.

Our book selections are likely to provoke strong feelings and many ideas, some of which may be controversial. We value having a club that supports all members with healthy and respectful discussions.

Our initial administrators are Mira Rubin, Co-Founder of Sustainability Now, and Jan Morgan, a Co-chair of the Living Planet Working Group. The annual platform fee has been paid, so there is currently no charge for membership, which runs through September 2025.

We have selected the Bookclubs app because it is a small woman-owned business. We have signed up for the Pro Plus membership which offers a variety of great features, including the following:

- Polling: ranked-choice voting, multiple choice and open response questions, and the option for potluck polls if we ever meet in person.

- Storage for club documents such as photo albums and meeting minutes.

- The ability to schedule multiple meetings in advance.

- Club communications, including text messaging and calendar integration, such as direct messages and group chats. Meetings can be automatically synced with your online calendar, and members can opt-in to receive chat messages and texts about new meetings and polls.

- Bookclubs Pro Plus also offers an ad-free experience and provides Regenerative Reads with a custom branded banner image on the club page and email notifications, as well as an automated, personalized welcome message to new club members.

- Club meetings will be hosted on video using Zoom. Additionally, there are customizable community features and the ability to plan the number of RSVP emails, as well as manage the member list.
