About Pen A Theme
Pen A Theme is a laid-back, reflective book club for readers who appreciate meaningful stories and grounded conversation, without pressure or pretense.
We’re not guided by monthly themes or strict formulas. Our book choices lean toward BIPOC authors, but there’s no set structure, just instinct, recommendations, and curiosity. Some titles surprise us, some linger long after we finish, but most lead to the kind of discussions that feel worth showing up for.
This group was created for readers who crave a mix of meaning, honesty, and imagination, without the expectation to follow trends or squeeze into a mold. Our members span generations and reading tastes, which makes every conversation layered, thoughtful, and open-ended.
If that sounds like your kind of reading rhythm, we’d love to have you.
We meet every other Wednesday from 7:00 – 8:30 PM Eastern and occasionally host conversations with the authors themselves. These moments allow us to go deeper, not just with the books, but with the people behind them.
This is a club for those seeking narratives that reflect the richness of who we are, our brilliance, imagination, humor, resilience, and joy.
We’re not escaping ... we’re expanding.
How We Show Up
- Come as you are, stay open. There’s no need to perform, just bring your perspective and your presence.
- Let everyone speak. Make room for each voice. Listen as deeply as you share.
- Speak from your truth, not over others. We share experiences, not assumptions.
- Honor difference. We don’t all read or receive stories the same way, and that’s the beauty of this space.
- No spoilers without a heads-up. If we’re still in early chapters, let’s not jump to the ending unless we agree to.
- Confidentiality matters. What’s shared in this space stays in this space.
