About Oddities Book Club
Welcome to Oddities Book Club!
My name is Mia, I'm 22 years old and I started this book club to share my love of literature with readers far and wide. Book addicts and new readers alike can come together to discuss the bimonthly book, sharing their insights and discussing characters, plot lines and themes to the story.
FAQ:
What genres do you read?
Almost anything and everything. We do not read books with extremely violent, sexual or disturbing themes that could distress readers, however this book club is still recommended for 18+ due to some adult content being present in select books. Under 18s are not permitted to join Microsoft Teams meetings due to a lack of policing language. If an under 18 is found to be present at a meeting, he or she will be removed from the book club entirely.
We do not read books with strong political or religious themes. If politics or religion is mentioned by a member during meetings, the conversation is gently redirected. While Oddities Book Club encourages its members to calmly and openly discuss divisive subject matters with those in their personal lives, we do not wish to engage in any political or religious debate during book club discussions.
Where do book club meetings take place?
Meetings are hosted online via Microsoft Teams. It is recommended you use a logged in account when joining a meeting so I know who you are. It is not a requirement to have your camera turned on, but it always helps in aiding conversation. The choice is yours!
When do meetings usually take place?
We meet on a Sunday at 7pm BST/GMT. Please check time zones prior to joining a meeting.
Can I join if I’m not from the UK?
Oddities Book Club is hosted from the United Kingdom by children’s author Mia R Donovan. Readers from across the globe can participate in thrilling conversations no matter the country. Due to time zones, this book club is recommended for book lovers based in Europe, Africa and the Americas. To participate, you must be able to speak English to a conversational level.
How often do you meet?
That depends. We meet every 2 months, but sometimes we meet twice within that second month. Confusing, I hear you say? Let’s break it down for you in an example:
In the first week of January, a book will be selected by a vote. The selected book is read over the course of January and February. At the end of February, we will discuss said book on Microsoft Teams. This means you get 2 whole months to focus on the book. We do this to allow readers more time to invest in the story if they prefer to take their time reading. SOMETIMES there is a tie between two books in the bimonthly poll, so both books are selected. At the end of February, two separate meetings will take place - one meeting per book. You do not have to read both books. You can pick and choose which of the two books you would like to read and discuss with the group.
What happens if I miss a meeting?
If you are unable to attend a meeting but have already read the selected book and wish to speak about it, special arrangements can be made to host a 1-on-1 conversation with Mia R Donovan via book club messaging.
Do I need to pay anything to participate?
NO! This book club is 100% FREE. No costs, no charges, and no subscription fees, either to myself or book clubs.com.
