About Morbidly Curious Book Club - MKE
MKE chapter of The Morbidly Curious Book Club
We discuss 1 book towards the end of each month. Polls will be used! You will see the book we are reading in the 'Currently Reading' tab, and the meeting time on the 'Meeting' tab. We ask beforehand that you check trigger warnings on all books we discuss. Some may be easy to miss. Proceed with caution.
MILWAUKEE SPECIFIC ACTIVITY - NOT AFFILIATED WITH MCBC
At the beginning of each meeting, we will start with 5 60 second pitches!
Pitches must be approved beforehand by Jo!
Topics Allowed:
-Local festival in your neighborhood
-New small business/ your yard sale / your own small business or side hustle, if you are NOT recruiting (you can tell people you sell Mary Kay & have a sale going but do not try to hypnotize them into selling as one of your minions. We know what Mary Kay is & will buy from you if we want to)
NOTE: you may pitch if a business you work for (or own) is hiring!
-Talk about another group you are in/ need new members (volleyball teams, knitting club, maybe even another book club!)
-Girl scout cookies-esque things to support a local fundraiser, like a Humane Society Bake Sale
-Educational information - Teach us something! (safety tips if trapped in an elevator, self-defense technique, helping pollinators, etc)
-ISO/ FREE GIVEAWAY : within reason (moving & looking for a place to rent, need a couch / giving away extra wildflower seeds, free tickets to an event)
-Need ideas / opinions on light-hearted topics (which paint color do you all like more?)
-FRIENDS! Are you new to town & need friends or recommendations/ tips on MKE? Let us know and WELCOME to 414! :)
What is not allowed:
-MLM recruitment (Anything that starts with "Hey girl...")
-Relationship...anything, please find dates elsewhere and then make them join the book club if everything goes well lol
-Religious or Political ANYTHING - this is a safe space for all!
-Obviously anything illegal or offensive - To be EXTRA cautious, pitches must be approved beforehand. Prove to me I'm taking an unnecessary step and don't need to do this lol
Of course, many of these topics can be popped in the book conversation if it is fitting but the 60 second pitch is meant for a person or small, collective group, to have undivided attention! This is to be seen as a networking and educational pitch, do not be annoying and NO business transactions are to take place until the book club is over, as those are not associated with MCBC. Again, you get 60 SECONDS!
Come & join as you may & discuss at your own will. Even if you weren't quite able to finish the book!
