About Genre Benders

Welcome to Book Club! Prior to joining, founding members received two different Google Forms to fill out. The first one being a genre interest ranking. That form decided in which order we will be reading our books of different genres. The second form gave three selections of books from fifteen genres and had them choose the book they’re most interested in from each genre. It was a “majority rules” system, so the most voted book in each genre was chosen for the book club. The books chosen for the Google Form were based on extensive research collected from Amazon & GoodReads reviews, BookTok reviews, Reddit, and articles from websites such as USA Today.

Most book clubs stick with just one genre everyone is most interested in. This book club is going to be a little different. We are going to hit a bunch of different genres! The reason we are doing that is because it is nice to step out of our comfort zone. I don’t think it is really a book club if you’re only reading books from genres you like! Reading different genres will widen your vocabulary, boost creativity, improve your memory, enhance writing skills, inspire you, increase empathy and more!

I strongly encourage everyone to come into our book club with an open mind and an open heart. You do not have to like every genre we are exploring. You do not have to finish any of the books if you don’t like them (but you will tell the club WHY you didn’t like them!). You don’t even have to start a book we’re reading if that genre or book does not interest you, but I encourage you to give them all a try and step out of your comfort zone- that is the beauty of a book club!

You may order your physical books (used or new) on Amazon or any other book retailer, you can listen to the books on Audible or any other audio retailer, you can even read the books electronically on a Kindle or tablet, use the library, any way you prefer to read, just be happy you are reading! Open your mind!!!
