About Books for Altruism

Are you passionate about Global Social Justice and Equity? Enjoy reading thought-provoking books about the world? Do you want to discuss modern ideas like 'Effective Altruism' with like-minded people?

'Books for Altruism' intends to be a diverse and inclusive online book club for anyone interested in making the world a better place.

Books (fiction and non-fiction) centred on altruism and social justice are the focus. Books covering topics such as Psychology, Personal Development and Moral Philosophy will also be explored in the context of altruism.

  • Club meetings occur on the 28th of each month from 19:00-20:30 through Zoom.

Each meet-up is dedicated to a book on our Reading List and is led by our Admin Melody.

We encourage all members to attend and participate in discussions about each book's key messages and how these might be applied to our personal and professional lives.

Club Participation Guidelines:

  1. No foul or discriminatory language.
  2. Meeting attendees are encouraged to maintain online etiquette by not dominating conversations or being dismissive of others.
  3. Members should respect different viewpoints and be encouraged to think critically when disagreements arise.
  4. Meetings are intended to be relatively casual and friendly; however, discussions must remain relevant to the book's key messages and themes.
