Inviting members or joining a club
How do I get my club to show up on the public book club directory?
If you're looking for new members and would like to list your club on our Join a Book Club page, please go here and fill out the information to help readers find your club and decide if it's right for them!
How do I join a book club via an invitation link?
Click the unique invitation link that was shared with you. Then you will be prompted to create an account. Once you create an account, the book club should show up under your clubs. If you already have an account, make sure you are signed in, and then click the invitation link and accept the invitation. If you use the app, you can go to your Profile, and then click "Join a club with invitation link" to enter the link in the app.
How do I join a book club on Bookclubs?
If you are looking for a book club to join, you can find a variety of clubs on our “Join a Book Club” page that are open to the public. On this page you can scroll through the many categories of book clubs or search clubs by keyword or location. Each club has a description and you can see what they are currently reading. To join one of these clubs, simply click the Join button. Some clubs will ask you to answer a few questions before joining; these clubs will have a "Request to Join" button.
How do members join the club?
Members will either receive an email or they will click on a unique invitation link that is shared directly. You can find the invitation link on your club’s page, you can choose to copy and paste this into an email, or there is also a designated area for you to enter the email addresses of those you would like to invite.
Can anyone join the club I've created?
Only people who have your invitation link can join your club. If you want further control over who joins your club, you can set up screening questions and individually approve prospective members (this is a Bookclubs Premium feature or is free for all public clubs).
How can I see who has joined my club?
Your list of members can be found on both the site and the app. From the website, log in and go to "My Clubs." Then, from your club page, you will see a navigation bar on the left hand side. Click on "members" to see your full list of members with their contact information. On the app, the members list is available on the "About" tab.
How can I remove a member from my club? What is the difference between removing and blocking a member?
Admins can remove members of their clubs by going to the club's Members tab (on the app, get there by first going to the About tab). For each member you'll see a button to remove the member as well as a toggle to "block" the member (on the app, to see these you'll first need to click on the three buttons on the upper right of the member's card).
If you remove a member, they will no longer be part of your club, but they will be able to rejoin in the future by clicking on your club's invitation link. If you block a member, they will lose access to your club, and will not be able to rejoin your club. Note that you will still see them listed on your club's list of members, but as "blocked."
In either case, the member will not be notified that they have been removed or blocked. They will simply cease to see your club listed under "My Clubs" when they log into Bookclubs.
How do I leave a book club?
There are two ways to do remove yourself from a club. On the website or the app, go to the club that you want to leave and navigate to the "Members" tab. You should see yourself as the first entry in the member list, and there is a "Leave club" button you can press to leave the club (on the app, to see this option you'll first need to click on the 3 dots on the right of your member card). If you want to more quickly remove yourself from multiple clubs, visit the website and navigate to https://bookclubs.com/profile/settings. Scroll all the way down to "My memberships" and then click the Remove button next to each of the clubs that you want to leave.
I'm logged into Bookclubs but I can't see my club, what's happening?
It's possible you have accidentally created a second Bookclubs account under a different email address. Please check to see that you are logged into Bookclubs under the same email address that you receive emails from Bookclub at.
First, go to your email inbox and search for an email from your club on Bookclubs such as a meeting notification. Check the email address in the to: line of the email.
Second, check to see what email address you're currently logged into Bookclubs with:
- On the app: click on "Profile" on the bottom navigation bar and check the email address If it's not the address you get emails at, then scroll down to the bottom of that same screen and click on "sign out" to sign out and then sign back in with your other email address.
- On the website: go to https://bookclubs.com/profile/settings. If it doesn't show the right email address, then click on your name on the upper right corner of the page and select "sign out" from the drop-down menu.
Lastly, log back into Bookclubs using the correct address.
