How does the book’s cover invoke the themes of the story?
Jordyn has many reasons why she wanted to attend Frazier University, one of which was to feel a sense of belonging and for once not being the “other.” Can you relate to Jordyn? Why or why not? What criteria do you have in choosing a college/university?
Jordyn reads How to Win Friends and Influence People by Dale Carnegie to help her navigate college life. In what ways does the book help her succeed? How does it put her in harm’s way?
How would you describe Jordyn’s relationship with her parents? How has this central relationship changed how she approaches people in her life?
Nick refers to Devonte’s group as a “cult.” Define “cult.” Do you agree with this assessment?
Consider popular media, including books, movies, and podcasts. Why are we as a society so obsessed and drawn to cult stories?
Devonte has a very strong presence when he appears in the story. What are some behaviors he exhibited that indicate he is much more sinister than he appears? What are some red flags that Jordyn and her roommates ignored?
How do Jordyn’s roommates and friends become susceptible to Devonte’s group?
Nick and Jordyn act as foils for one another. What similarities do they have in common?
