Maddie had a very difficult experience in New York City, experiencing a toxic work environment that caused her to doubt herself. Have you ever faced a similar professional situation? What did you think of how Maddie handled it?
Are you a small town person or a big city person? Can you relate to Maddie's original desire to escape Rome? Her later desire to return home?
Sibling dynamics play a big role in the story. Contrast Maddie's close relationship with her siblings to James' strained relationship with Tommy. Why do the brothers have so much trouble getting along?
Maddie saw herself as a repeat failure, but James saw her very differently. How did James help Maddie to reframe her self-perception?
James had a tendency to shoulder all burdens himself. Why did he behave that way? What caused him to finally open up and lean on others?
The soft opening of The Greenhouse was chaotic to say the least. How did this pivotal event affect the characters?
Would you want to eat at The Greenhouse? What dish would you be most excited to try?
Have you read the earlier three books in Adams' Rome, Kentucky series? If so, which was your favorite and why? Did you find "In Your Dreams" to be a satisfying send-off for the series?
